Beginning:
The company was created in 1913 by Mario Prada and his brother Martino as a leathergoods shop in Milan, Italy - Fratelli Prada (English: Prada Brothers). At first shop sold leather goods and imported English steamer trunks and handbags. But in 1977 Miuccia Prada decided to stop importing English goods and to change the existing bags styles.
Development:
In 1983 Prada opened a second boutique in Italy in Milan. Then in 1984 Prada began to expand across the Europe, opening boutiques in famous shopping areas in Florence, Paris, Madrid, and New York City. In this very year the shoe line was started. And in 1985 the famous classic Prada handbag was created and became a sensation, depicting comfort and luxury.
Prada in 1990s:
In the 1990s Prada brand became a status symbol, and the fashion house itself became one of the most influential fashion houses. Company owned 8 factories and subcontracted work from 84 other manufacturers in Italy. In 1998 the first Prada menswear boutique was opened in Los Angeles, California.
